Just Keep Drivin’

A couple weeks ago, it was one of those breathtakingly beautiful mornings with fog everywhere — white snow, white sky, crisp frost on the branches. I had an hour’s drive ahead of me, so I grabbed my camera to try to capture some of this beauty. Unfortunately, as I drove along the highway, I could never find a good place to pull over to take pictures. Frustrated, I vowed to take the next side road I came to. It snuck up on me in the fog, and I swung onto it… and, moments too late, noticed it was a rutted, muddy dirt road. Not even gravel, just dirt. Great. My clean white car…

Courage vs. Cowardice

An internal conflict raged inside of me.

Part of me felt at peace in anticipation of major surgery. Another part of me wanted to run in the opposite direction to avoid the knife and a lengthy hospital stay. Random thoughts scurried through my head.

Would I see my daughter marry? Create sandcastles with our grandchildren again? Retire and travel to exotic places with my hubby? No guarantees included with surgery.

Passion Fatigue

In honor of Military Spouse Day we are featuring a devotion from Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan (AMG Publishers 2009), co-authored by Jocelyn Green, Jane Hampton Cook and John Croushorn. This devotion is by Starlett Henderson.

Thank you, all of you who are or were at one time the spouse of someone who served in the United States Military. We humbly thank you for your sacrifices as well.

Trust the One Who can Part the Red Sea

This time though, I’m a lot closer in my walk with Him and He lovingly knows how to get my attention. If you think God speaks in all thou’s and whoever’ith, well, He doesn’t with me. This is what He said:

“You can’t even part hair, why won’t you trust the One who parted the Red Sea?”

I laugh thinking about it because this wasn’t an accusing voice, it was an authentic voice that knows me in and out and loves me. He wants the best for me. He’s honest and funny, and yes, holy.

Too Prepared?

Mary chose what was better. Mary chose peace, reassurance, and clarity when in the presence of her Lord. We should also choose what is better when the ‘dailyness’ of life throws us a few curveballs.
