Be Kind

One of my favorite quotes is… Kindness is a fruit of the spirit. Galatians 5:22, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness…” When I sit back and reflect on life, my own life, my families lives, people I have met in ministry, believers, nonbelievers, everyone I come in to contact with has something in common. We are all human. Humans have several things in common (no matter what your belief system is). We are all imperfect, we all are created with a desire to be heard and loved, and we all face battles, trails, and tribulation. One thing I have noticed, most of the people I know (including myself) can go through some of the biggest battles of their lives and the people around them, for whatever reason, have no idea what is going on. Sometimes people feel like they have to fight their battle alone, some people are just private, sometimes its pride, sometimes its obedience, sometimes its fear, but no matter what the reason behind their choice they have chosen to keep their battle to themselves. Thats why I love that quote… On any given day you can come in to contact with people who are going through the biggest battle of their life and you may have no clue! Thats why being KIND is so important. The kindness you show to people can make all the difference to people who are going through their own personal battle. We desperately need help in learning how to love people well. If we love people well all of the time, the kindness will come…...

Resolutions? Not here.

Resolutions are being posted. Commitments are being made. Goals are clear. The new year has begun. Statistics show less than 10% of resolutions are kept. Yet, our society continues to proclaim them, year after year. This year, like many years past, I will not write any new year’s resolutions. They are not for me, and the excitement for them lasts until I turn the calendar to February. This year, I want to say yes to God things. This year, I want to put off the old, and put on the new. I want to live out what Colossians 3:1-17 says: 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge...

Freedom

As we pause to celebrate the freedoms that we enjoy this July Fourth, may we too pause to reflect on how we serve our fellow man, and see freedom as the opportunity it is to not serve self, but one another. “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Luke...
