Cling Tight Dear One

When life seems to keep knocking you down and you start to wonder when will you see the sun again just remember to cling tight, dear one. This has been the four words that God keeps pressing on my heart these last few months. Oh how I wish that I could tell you that the Christian life was all sunshine and roses, but truth is that it’s not always easy.

Yes, there are times when It’s full of sadness, disappointment, and hurt, but there are also times full of happiness, joy and love. Thank goodness for that, because can you image how hard it would be to even get out of bed each day if it was only the hard stuff? Here’s what I will tell you — I’ve grown more as a believer in the hard times than in the easy times.

Sit there for a minute.

It’s a hard truth, for sure, but it’s true. It’s when things are tough than we run (not even walk) to God. It’s not when things are going smoothly. So, what’s one supposed to do when you are buried deep in the middle of the hard times? Well, that’s where these four words come in handy…cling tight, dear one.

These four words have been on my mind for months now. Every single time I cry out to God for help, relief or comfort I feel Him say to me, “cling tight, dear one”. Why those four words and why every single time I pray these days? I think I’m beginning to understand and it’s my hope that these four words will bring comfort to you as they continue to comfort me. To get a better understanding, let’s dig into these four words a little more.

Cling

  • hold closely, stick to,
  • to hold tight, as by grasping or embracing, cleave,
  • to be or remain close, to remain attached.

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8 ESV

Tight

  • firmly or closely fixed in place; not easily moved; secure
  • drawn or stretched so as to be tense; taut
  • affording little or no extra room; fitting closely, especially too closely

And you will feel secure, because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security. Job 11:18 ESV

Dear

  • beloved or loved
  • precious in one’s regard; cherished
  • heartfelt; earnest

so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:7 ESV

One –

  • being a particular, unique, or only individual, item, or unit
  • something or someone of the kind just mentioned

O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! Psalm 84:12 ESV

Do you see it? Those four words have so much more to them than meets the eye. God sees you, loves you and is there for you through those hard times in your life. He’s never left you, forgotten about you, or decided you weren’t worth the work.

Oh my friend, how I wish I could sit across from you and listen to your stories. Listen to the heartbreak, the sadness, and hand you a kleenex for your tears, but our Heavenly Father has something more infinitely wonderful for us — and that’s Him. He wants to be the one to listen and wipe away your tears.

Our friends, family and loved ones shouldn’t be the first ones we run to when things get tough. When we’re tempted to pick up the phone we’ve first gotta go to the throne. It’s when we cry out and cling to Jesus that we find the strength we need to carry on.

Cling tight, dear one is not an easy fix it for everything but when we cling tight to Jesus, stay in His Word, cry out to Him and seek our value and worth in His opinions of us then we can begin to see the sunshine come back out again.

Today I pray you “Cling tight, dear one” and watch to see what God has in store for you in this season.
