RISE UP! And Do Life Differently

Thoughts on Sarah Martin’s new book Just RISE UP!: A Call To Make Jesus Famous

I feel a stirring with in this generation, women right here and right now. There’s an air of anticipation of a life before us where we simply do life differently. We see the world around us, the great need, and we want to make our individual mark on the world. I call this stirring the need to RISE UP.

But what if we looked at this air of anticipation in a new, fresh, radical way? What if we determined that instead of making our own way in the world, instead of making ourselves famous, our goal in life is to make Jesus famous?

What if we were to…

Rise up and revere Jesus as King of every part of our life.

Rise up and live out Truth.

Rise up and speak Truth.

Rise up and do hard things.

Rise up and make tough decisions.

Rise up and let our life point to the One who deserves all fame and renown.

As I’ve purposed to live out this heart stirring, I find that I must prepare daily to rise up. It is not in my true nature to make Jesus famous. My default thinking is how can my name or my agenda take precedence? Because of this fleshly side of my heart and mind, my prep work needed to rise up everyday is to GO LOW before Him.

This takes on a physical posture as I kneel in prayer. And, if I’m really ego heavy, I must come face down to the floor. John the Baptist said it beautifully:

He must increase, but I must decrease. {John 3:30}

~He must increase in my heart as my King and ultimate authority.

I must decrease and relent my stubborn ways of running my own life.

~He must increase in my mind as I praise Him in every situation.

I must decrease in my complaining and whining through out my day.

~He must increase in my LIFE as I look to please Him alone in everything I do.

I must decrease as I evaluate the ways I spend my time and look for happiness.

So for us to prepare for this life movement, to rise up, I encourage you to decrease.

It will be uncomfortable to get on our knees before the Lord in a low posture as we humble ourselves to His purpose and His fame. This is also exciting as we set our heart in a place that makes us ready to allow Him to work through us as we RISE UP!

One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. (Psalm 145:4-7 ESV)

Might I invite you to join me on a journey toward doing life differently for the fame of our King, Jesus? I wrote Just RISE UP! with you in mind. I wrote it to encourage you and invigorate your faith journey toward living a life of praise, a kingdom perspective, a humble posture while you encourage others to do the same. I thought I would share a bit from the introduction regarding who Just RISE UP! is for…

Let’s tackle who this book is not for. Just RISE UP! is not for those of us who have it all together and live a perfect faith. It is not for those who already have the Bible figured out to the letter. If you are a woman who loves Jesus (even if you’ve only known Him for five minutes) and craves something bigger than yourself, then Just RISE UP! is for you. If you need a breakthrough in faith, Just RISE UP! is for you. And if you think it’s thrilling (maybe even a bit frightening) to contemplate a big, bold belief in the King of kings, then once again, Just RISE UP! is for you.

(From Just RISE UP!: A Call To Make Jesus Famous)

Let’s do this together! Let’s be that generation that lives with servant love and bold faith. Let’s be women who make His name renown because HE IS WORTHY. Let’s do the tough stuff to live life differently for the glory of Jesus. Let us RISE UP! and make Jesus famous together!

  1. I like your article… I sure need a breakthrough in faith… I constantly feel stumped at taking the next huge step of complete surrender… Though I know He’s with me protecting and guiding me in all the mess I’m in. I also feel deep down there’s an importance to all that is happening and His reason/will is waiting to burst forth from me. When/how I don’t know. God bless.

  2. What a great giveaway! Decreasing so He can increase…yikes. like you mentioned in the promo: being less inclined to whine, but also not allowing those whiney thoughts to be thought about. Just not verbalizing isn’t enough.
Spending less time on fluff, more time on things that matter. Doing all for His glory. ( even housekeeping basics…dishes etc ) ouch.
Not giving in when attitudes around you are less than right. (Especially on Sundays in church…you know all the pre-church practices/set up drama).
    Hmm…methinks I need this book. 🙂
Whether I win it or not.

  3. I’ve been following Jesus for almost 10 years. In the beginning, I was a sponge soaking up all the knowledge from His Word! Then I started serving in my church. I served so much that I forgot what it was like to sit at Jesus’ feet. So I am back digging into His Word again.
I want the fire back that I lost over the last 5 years because I was so busy serving God. I’ve almost forgotten what it feels like to be “on fire” for Jesus.
Right now, I must take myself out of the equation for Him to increase and me to decrease. I have to remember…it’s not about me!
I can’t wait to dig in to this study.

  4. I immensely enjoyed your article. It was so refreshing and RISE UP is truly all we need to do. Many find it difficult as Christians and believers of Christ to truly submit and commit to His way. But if we just take a moment to realize the value of the relationship we have we Him it truly outweighs every negative situation that we’ve encountered or will because He’s with us every step of the way. I’m speaking from personal experience as I learned as early as yesterday of something that should have me somewhere crying and spazing out but I know there is no need because my Father has me covered by His blood and by His stripes I’m healed. It so comforting to know that as I grow in Him and work daily to improve my relationship with Him that He’s nurturing, pruning, purging, and preparing me for a great assignment that will bring glory to Him. #gratefulandblessed
