Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. – 1 Peter 5:8 & 9, NRSV
The other day I followed my general routine of toddler up, toddler fed, toddler plays outside, toddler naps. When the later happens, mommy gets on the treadmill. I will be honest and say that I love it about thirty percent of the time. I like it about forty percent of the time and I hate it the rest. Nonetheless, it is a necessary part of caring for this loyal shell of mine.
A “like it” day turned into a “love it” day, when a blast from the past shuffled over my iPod. When you have had an iPod since their inception, you have a lot of forgotten tunes. This particular song is the kind that makes you feel formidable. The treadmill becomes a crowd of naysayers trying to keep you from the finish line. Little do they know, it only pushes your feet faster as you transform into a running superhero.
This superhero is not merely a life educator, sippy cup manager and schedule moderator. She has no treadmill hate percentage. No way. She is tough and willing to throw a few elbows to finish this race. You know the one…“Strength and dignity are her clothing and she laughs at the time to come (Proverbs 31:25, NRSV).”
In just a few notes, I was transformed from Vanilla Me to Tough Girl Tracy. Do you have one of those songs? I suggest you pull it out of the library and dust it off. It is time that we stop thinking about our ordinary selves, and start thinking about who we were re-created to be.
You see, I am simply a woman but…
I am simply a woman who believes that Jesus, God’s only Son, came to this earth to save me from a dead existence, peddled by the aforementioned adversary.
I am simply a woman who believes that Jesus did not leave me to face this predatory beast with my natural skill set.
I am simply a woman who believes that the power of the Holy Spirit that resurrected my Savior, Jesus Christ, from the dead lives in this loyal shell to be my Advocate.
I am simply a woman who has immeasurable power, through Jesus, to resist what is not best for me and claim victory over every unexpected circumstance of my life.
I do not have to succumb.
I do not have to be afraid.
I can choose not to be alone.
I was created to shake the foundation of the hells creatively under construction around me. While most days I see a woman on the defense against the Predator, God re-created me to be a woman actively resisting the Destroyer and going beyond that to undo the damage inflicted on this world by an enemy with no allegiance.
But, I have allegiance.
I am as powerful as one simple person believing in a simple relationship with Jesus Christ.
You are as powerful as one simple person believing in a simple relationship with Jesus Christ.
How can today be different if we simply believe that this is true?

Great post.
