Shine — This Little Light of Mine

For though your hearts were once full of darkness, now you are full of light from the LORD and your behavior should show it! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Ephesians 5:8-9 NLT

When you choose to shine in this dark, sad, and dreary world, you stand out.

I changed my focus from a long list of New Years resolutions to a simple one-word statement for the year.

It was a radical shift in my thinking and one that has allowed me to filter my everyday, ordinary moments of life through to see if what I say is important is really showing it in my life.

One word.

One statement.

One thing to keep my mind on for the entire year.

Wanting to live a life with passionate purpose, means that you live your life in the light of God’s love. Choosing to fill up daily with God’s Word allows that light to dig deeper within you and shine brighter from you.

In Ephesians 5:8-9, it says your behavior should “show it”!

Think about that for one minute. When people meet you at the grocery store, in the car line, at the bank, at the ball fields, can they tell you are different? Or are you just like them?

When you focus on what is – good, right, and true, you set yourself up to be unique – to stand out.

Does it mean you are perfect?

No, it says in God’s word that “No one is perfect, not even one.” (Romans 3:10)

Does that mean you give up?

Nope, you keep on trying to do the best you can.

Listen, you and I both know what we were like before Jesus radically transformed our lives. I am sure we could swap war stories, but the reality is that if you and I are acting the same as we did before we met Jesus, then what kind of witness are we to those in and around our lives?

If you are full of His light, then your life should show it!

I want to be a woman, who lives my life with a passionate purpose, don’t you?

So, what should we do?

We can choose to shine His light and love to everyone we meet and in all we do by taking time to grow to be more like Him.

Shine with me sweet sisters…together, with the grace of God, we can cast a big and bright light into this dark, sad, and sometimes lonely world.

Action Step:

Right now, take a minute to sing the song, “This Little Light of Mine” to yourself and remind yourself all day long to let your light shine! Then, let your light shine today.
