And the LORD said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:17
Grace’s babbling over the baby monitor drew me out of sleep. I listened, smiled, and rolled over. Her constant, incoherent chatter soon lulled me into drowsiness, until two syllables snapped me awake.
“Mama.”

Not sure I’d heard correctly, I reached across the pillows to turn up the volume. I listened to Grace rustle around in her crib until she said it again, this time drawing it into a song. “Mamamamamamamama.”
A smiled flooded my face as I headed down the hall to get my baby girl. For weeks, I’d begged her to say my name. She’d look in my eyes, smile, and say “Da-da.” But this time, it was my name. I’d listened closely just to make sure.
It’s amazing how important it is to hear your name. It made me think of the day I’ll stand before Christ, when I’ll look in his face and hear Him call out, “Carol Buell Hatcher.” Just thinking about it had my heart bursting, and I threw open the door to the nursery.
I ran to the cherub in the baby bed and lifted her up to my face. “Awww, who’s got you?” I asked, waiting eagerly to hear my name roll from her baby-soft lips.
“Da-da.”
Lord, I am honored and amazed that You know me by name.

I love everything about it, especially the fact that you can love someone SO much, and they feel just the same about you!

I love being a mom because my children led me to God’s pure love. Had it not been for them I do not think my husband or myself would have let Jesus in our hearts and God guide our way. The 5 words spoken from my 5 year old…”can we go to church?”…changed every aspect of our lives.

Carol, I always love reading your devotionals. They touch my heart everytime and take me back to my early parenting days. My “babies” are 33 & 28 and I still love being their mom.

We struggled with miscarriages and infertility for many years, so I appreciate everything about my three miracle daughters! I am blessed to be their mama and lead them as God directs me. It’s a privilege! Good morning smiles, good night stories, and everything in between.

I love being a mom because of how I am changed and stretched by God in the process of mothering. I remember when I made the final decision to homeschool my boys. The Lord said ” It’s not the boys who need work. They will be fine. It’s you I’ll be working on” I spend then next year in my pj’s wearing yesterday’s make up, being humbled and loved by my Lord.
If I win the giveaway, I’ll be giving the book to my friend Michelle who recently had a baby. I know she daily seeks His face and would appreciate a gift of encouragement letting her know that she is not alone.
So glad I found your site!

I remember being so excited when each of my guys said,”Mama” – and then about a certain age I laughed, thinking, ‘What was I thinking teaching them my name” – LOL Why do I love being a mother? Well – I do also say that they so totally capture our hearts pre-5 with their straight-from-heaven kind of love – and that sustains us through the teen years. As the boys get older, I realize what a huge task being a mom is – and it’s not about cute moments any more – it’s about hard work, not giving up and fulfilling the huge obligation to God for giving me the privilege of being a mom by raising sons to love Him.

I am still new to this ‘motherhood’ thing…in fact, my husband and I lost our first three babies (twins and another baby) previously due to heartbreaking miscarriages while they were still inside me, and we are now pregnant again (31 weeks) and due this July. I still consider myself a mother, despite what anyone else says – God made me a mother with our first pregnancy and He gave me a mother’s heart. It was heartbreaking when we weren’t able to meet our first three children on earth before they passed away, but we are so excited to soon be meeting this little one face to face in the summer! My favorite part of motherhood so far (and part of why I love it so much!) is the connection I feel I have already with our unborn child…all our baby’s movements and kicks, the hiccups, the weeks of morning sickness at the beginning, and my ever-expanding belly (and now stretch marks) all serve to connect me with this baby, and praise God for this blessing He’s given us.

I do love being a mom to my two girls. They make me smile and laugh. I am so blessed to see the world through their eyes, so innocent and pure and new. I am so grateful for the special piece of heaven they bring into my life.
