Hospitality…in a world that drives into the driveway, opens the garage door, pulls in and shuts the garage door.
What ever happened to neighbors lingering on front porches? Another day and time perhaps.
Just the other day a friend called and said, “We should have a feast. A mid week feast. Let’s just everyone come, bring what they can. You know, break bread the way they ‘used’ to.”
What a beautiful idea.
No worries about what the house looks like.
No worries that the carpet and couches need to be replaced.
No worries about whether the food will be restaurant quality.
No worries that our nail polish is chipped.
Just good friends. Good conversation.
Hospitality…when was the last time you took time out to “practice hospitality?”
I know. Me too.
Is there someone you need to invite over and practice hospitality, genuine hospitality?
Welcome to WFW!
There are very few rules, in fact the beauty of this ministry is the creative expression that God reveals Himself through. We marvel at the creativity that participants post with this meme. We encourage the “post behind the picture,” or the reflections that many of the participants share. We ask that participants use Biblical references only. It is a celebration of the Word and how He creatively manifests it in each of us.

Bless Lori as she encourages us to PRACTICE HOSPITALITY! May we not burn out; but keep ourselves fueled and aflame. May we be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Help us Lord to NOT quit in hard times; and pray all the harder. May we help needy Christians; as we “be inventive in hospitality”. When God’s people are in need, may we always be ready to help them… give of ourselves, our time and talent, our heart and hearth, our home of hospitality… from which perhaps the word ‘hospital’ comes, a place where one is made well, in spirit, in body and in mind… or the word “hospice”… that we may be a place of refuge, shelter, a caring environment to minister to all needs; not just provision of needs, though this is one, but may we encourage and lift each other up, lighten our mental or physical load with sharing and caring, giving as Jesus has shown us. Thank You Lord for the beautiful example of how to be hospitable to each other… I feel right at home with Lori. Thank You for Lori and her southern style of hospitality and feast. Looking to the big feast as I hunger and thirst for You, Lord, and knowing I will finally meet all my sisters in Christ… Glory… hallelujah… what a SPLASH that will be!
I’m over at the Power of Your Love again

I come from a family where it’s such a big thing to invite people over to the house. My mom would usually go overboard with the food and totally stress out. When I got married,I found that my husband was the exact opposite and would just invite people over even if we just had potato bread to serve them! Patsy from HeARTworks

Love it, Lori. What a great reminder that we need to remember to have hospitality and not just entertain. There’ a big difference.

Beautiful reminder of the need to open our hearts as well as our homes.

Its been too long for me too!! This was a great reminder that we shouldn’t really care about how things look and just enjoy each others company! It’s all about coming together to fellowship!

Oh…conviction hitting hard…
The “used to” should become the “need to”…thanks for the reminder.

Lori,
I loved the part about not worrying “if the house is clean or the food restaurant quality.” The clean house–that’s what always stops me. How much we miss out on by letting those lies stop us from breaking bread with each other.
Loved your word today. I will be thinking about who to invite over to my messy home.
Blessings,
Janis

We host a small group through our church and just the other night we talked about the lack of “neighboring” in this day and age. My husband and I shared how people in our condo complex just come and go from their “caves” and spend hardly any time trying to be neighborly. Your post is a refreshing bit of encouragement that we can extend hospitality, even in small ways, to those around us.

By the way, today is my first day of joining up on the linky! I have watched it for months and been blessed by it and finally put together something of my own to share.

There is definitely not enough of breaking bread with neighbors. It seems life is so hectic, but I know that there is an imbalance somewhere! Jesus says, “I am the life,” so I shall find His automatic flow in my days and not add anything else!
