The Interest of Others…

There are times that the Lord presses something on your heart for “such a time as this.” This week it was this verse.

“Help me do nothing from selfishness or conceit…but in humility, count others better than myself…”

Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at All….He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, He lived a selfless, obedient life..”

Philippians 2: 2-8

I read my Message translation this week, and I was challenged by the lingering question from my Solo devo;

“In what ways does your admiration for Jesus’ radical behavior inspire you to the behavior described in verses 2-4?”

Selfless and obedient, came to earth to teach us how to live. I embrace this when I venture out of my own selfishness  to help someone else for their sake not mine. I recently had the opportunity to “go outside of myself” and serve a group of kids in a group home. These kids have stories that no child should have to tell, but they do.

As part of a plant church, I’m learning that I must continually step outside of my own interests for the sake of being Jesus to the world…you know, outside my comfort zone and what “I” want to do.

It’s up to those of us who “have much, that much be expected.” If we know Jesus, and we aspire to live the “radical Jesus life” we must notice. We must consume ourselves with the interests of others. Very counter cultural, but very radically Jesus…

That’s my mission. Plunging deeper into the radical Jesus way.

WFW is not about books, authors, artists.. it’s about God and HIS WORD ONLY. WFW is about celebrating the gift of creativity through God’s Word.

Awesome! I love these inspirational Bible verses – they are well-underlined in each of my Bibles down through the years. And I love the way you illustrated them. A great way to hide these words in our hearts and minds! Have a blessed Word-Filled week!

    Lori,
WFW is one of my favorite times of the week!! God shares so much… helping me to see Him in all things. Thank you so much for sharing these Scriptures, the picture & thoughts – - – learning to withstand what “I” want to do, to complete His will for each situation. Lifting all up for this lesson to be learned.
    Hugs, HL

Lori, you bring out an excellent point. Christ has not called us to a life of comfort and complacency. I would dare to say that many of us can use this reminder to give ourselves away for the sake of others. Like the graphic as always

Lori, thank you for using these verses this week. I needed them. I’ve enjoyed a laid back summer, but it’s time to get back to work with our ministry. I’ve got more messages than I’ll possibly be able to answer the rest of this week. These verses have reminded me of the reason I do what I do.

    Blessings.

Thank you so much for sharing these verses! It is easy to want to do something for that “pat on the back”, but we should be doing it for God and furthering the Gospel.

    Have a blessed day!

Philippians is the first book of the Bible I studied as a believer, and (perhaps because of that) an absolute favorite. This is WONDERFUL. So much to ponder here – and absolutely something I desperately need to remember. Happy WFW, my dear friend!

Blessings Lori and WFWers… You are so faithful in serving us with a CHALLENGE as we read God’s WORD & gain more perspective but be changed radically as well!
Your graphics and your own words added to your choice from God’s Word has “set the table” perfectly for this. I will come to this table set before the LORD and comment further over at your place, while I feast on this WORD, ponder what it means for my life in Christ, nibble on this Daily Manna and “taste & see” the goodness of the Lord through the eyes of humility… a much admired quality for me, but not one easily attained. Yet putting other’s interests before mine is as important to me as getting the table set right.

I love you & your wonderful way of conveying God’s Word and our part in responding. Love what you share at your table today & always… a wonderful
    portion of meat. Thanks…
    (((hugs))) Peggy

Lori, this is so wonderful. I recently used this verse in an article I wrote for Exemplify and it’s one of my favorites. I love the image you created – your talent astounds me.

I loved your words as well. I so needed to hear this today – I have recently been feeling like I am pouring out so much and had thought about pulling back from that but that’s not what Jesus would do. I just have to find ways to pour back in and make it a priority.

Thank you for your motivation today!

    Ladies,
Each week I ask the Lord to guide me as I enter my WFW devotional…He does guide, and often pricks the parts that I’d rather not see, let alone expose. He is calling me to be RADICALLY different….These gifts I share with you…they are not mine, they are given to me by an unbelievable God. Each of you who participates shares these very same gifts…thank you for inspiring me and spurring me on…

May we “feast on the Word” together!

    peace,
    lori

Awesome image….and scripture! We all need the reminder to go outside of our comfort zone occasionally so we can be humbled and better servants of HIS! Thank you so much for sharing what was on your heart!

I love the graphic and the teaching. It’s so hard, sometimes, to do things purely from an unselfish standpoint. For example, when I encourage my children’s academic achievements, there is still selfish motive. I want them to do well for themselves, most importantly, but their achievement or endeavor also reflects on me. It’s food for thought.
    Blessings,
    Janis

What an incredible word and exhortation to all of us Lori!

Truly this is my goal daily. Many times I don’t come even close. But oh the rewards that follow the times I obey!!

    Thanks sweetie! This was AWESOME♥
