The Language of the Eternal

I’m a blade of grass; I’m already withering.

I woke up older this morning.

No, it isn’t my birthday. I’m just a day older than I was yesterday. The fact of the matter is, my skin is probably dryer. My hair is slowly starting its journey toward gray. My joints are more worn than they were last week. And calcium intake has become even more important.

Chocolate, too. I think. Hey, with age comes wisdom, right?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the speed of life lately. How it feels like just yesterday I was running around my parent’s backyard popping bubbles and playing with my siblings. Today I’m married living hundreds of miles away from them, trying my hardest to live a life that glorifies the Lord.

It’s amazing how fast our stories are told, is it not?

Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” (NIV)

His Word stands. Forever.

I wonder, what eternal word does He speak to you this morning? Are you humbled by the sheer force of His Eternal speaking to your temporal?

I love how Isaiah 40 goes on to say in verse 9, “You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” (NIV)

Of all the miracles of life, of all its fading beauty, of all its yesterday-bubbles-in-the-yard-today-married-with-dinner-cooking the most awing thing is this:

God uses fading flowers,

withering grass,

wisps of wind,

aging women to tell His redemption story.

His Eternal meets our temporal.

Today, do not be afraid.

Lift up your voice.

And speak the language of the Eternal.

“Here is your God.”

    “His Eternal meets our temporal.

    Today, do not be afraid.”

    Kristen,

Thank you for the lovely and true words. I have always felt like a fading flower. Ever aware of my fragility and the swift moving hourglass sand. You made me reflect again on the grace of God and His ability to redeem my failures and make me feel useful at any stage of my life. Blessings to you.
