A Treasured Possession

The other day I was putting away some of my girls’ Barbies when I noticed a strange “tattoo” on one.  This Barbie  had Ashley’s name on her back.  Although my girls share the growing population of dolls, this one was special to Ashley.  She had gotten it for her birthday and wanted to make sure no one else tried to claim her.  Ashley wanted to “mark” her treasured possession….she wanted to evidence to the world that this Barbie was “HERS.”

I smiled as I thought of God “marking” us with a seal as HIS own treasured possession (Ephesians 1:13 NIV).  I also immediately thought about the book of  Isaiah, where God speaks volumes about Him calling our name, our being His treasure, and names being written on hands.

God first tells us:

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.” Isaiah 43:1 NIV

No matter what names the world may call you….God has given you His name.  He calls you HIS.

And, just in case, you didn’t “get it”….God continues:

“….you are precious and honored in My sight.” Isaiah 43:4 NIV

You are PRECIOUS to God.  He cares about you.  He looks at you with honor.  Just like Ashley’s treasured, special Barbie, you are God’s treasured possession.

And, then, to remind us how treasured we are to God, not only are we reminded that He writes His name on us, but that OUR names are written on His palms.

Jesus says to us:

“See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Isaiah 49:16 NIV

Whenever I see “Ashley’s Barbie” I can smile a secret smile, knowing that I, too, am someone’s treasured possession…..and so are you.

Father God, thank You for loving me so much.  Thank You, that I am Yours and that You have marked me with the seal of the Holy Spirit.  Help me to “shake off” the names the world would so like to put on me and help me, instead, receive the Truth that “You have called me by name, I am Yours, and that I am precious and honored in Your sight.”  Thank You, Jesus!

    Every time I hear or see Isaiah 43:1, it just warms my soul so much! Thank you for the beautiful post today it was a blessing for me today.
